NINA FABUNMI

I make art because painting is like breathing to me, a way to explore identity, place, emotion, and the unseen rhythms of life through color, texture, and movement. Born in Nigeria and now living in San Francisco, I draw from my roots, personal experiences, and the energy of the city and its people to create expressive, emotionally charged works that move between portraiture, figures, landscapes, and cityscapes. My process is visceral and tactile: scraping, layering, pasting, and sculpting with palette knife, brush, and mixed media to build depth and surface that resonate with memory and presence. I am drawn to moments that speak of resilience, beauty, connection, and transformation, and in each painting I strive to honor both the complexity of lived experience and the quiet power of the human spirit.
